Contract : Servicing of Directional Wave Rider buoys (DWR’s), Tide gauges and Meteorological stations
Location : South coast of England
Services : We are contracted frequently by marine survey company EMU Limited to cover an area from Dover to Bournemouth. We provide support for Oceanographers who service wave, tide and weather recording equipment within a coastal strategic monitoring programme. Work varies within the contracts from moored buoys to fixed structures: We have been contracted to transport and transfer Oceanographers to an offshore purpose built tower. The boat then lies off whilst EMU Limited staff carry out service checks on the meteorological station and tidal measurement equipment. We also help in the cleaning of the tower which is done with use of our three inch salvage pump. This is used to pressure wash off all the bird fouling/guano so the tower is clean and safe for people to work on. The tower is located two miles off the coast at near Rustington. We are also contracted by EMU Limited to help in the servicing of wave recording buoys located at: Goodwin sands, Folkstone, Rye Bay, Pevensey Bay, Seaford Bay, Littlehampton Bay, Brackhelmsham Bay, Hayling Island, Sandown Bay, Lymington, Milford Bay and Boscombe Bay. This involves us taking two Oceanographers to site and recovering the buoy from the sea, onto the deck of the boat. The Oceanographers then carry out full services and clean the buoys before we redeploy them.
